BACTEC win South East Water tender for Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Risk Mitigation
At the end of May 2013, BACTEC International was delighted to win the tender for UXO risk mitigation services for South East Water during projects to renew or install new water mains at 46 sites across the South East of England. The first project commenced in June 2013 and the mitigation work at other sites will continue until February 2015.
South East Water supplies top quality drinking water to around 2.1 million customers in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.
BACTEC International has over 20 years of experience and expertise in UXO risk mitigation world-wide and will ensure the safety of South East Water's personnel, the public and the infrastructure surrounding each site from any possible effects of unexploded ordnance that may be found throughout the duration of the project.
Initially BACTEC will conduct preliminary risk assessments for all 46 sites; using their advanced Bombrisk interactive reporting service. This service was launched in 2012 www.bombrisk.com, the information is accurate, fast and effective and each report generated complies with CIRIA 681 guidelines.
Thereafter, if required a detailed risk assessments will be conducted. It is expected that as a result of the preliminary risk assessment many of the sites will not require any further research. The detailed assessments will include a risk mitigation strategy for each project as appropriate. The services provided to each location will depend on the requirements and the circumstances of each site.
For this project BACTEC is also able to offer their Bombtruck service; in the event of a live UXO item being discovered on a site, that has a net explosive quantity of 8kg or less and is deemed safe to move, the BACTEC Bombtruck will be able to collect the item and transport it to a licensed disposal facility.
“BACTEC is very pleased to be involved in this project. We believe BACTEC's flexible approach and the unique services we offer, such as Bombrisk and the Bombtruck, has enabled us to win this exciting long term project” says Lucie Tiverrier, Project Manager.
