Quality Assurance / Quality Control - Mine Action and EOD Contracts
Key aspects of any project are Quality Assurance
(QA) and Quality Control (QC)

All BACTEC Mine Action and EOD contracts/operations are subject to internal (and external when required) QA and QC throughout the life of the project by specially trained and appointed staff.

When required, BACTEC will carry out third party QA/QC of the main contractors' work on behalf of the client.

Quality Standards
  • All BACTEC UXO and landmine clearance work is carried out in accordance with International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and TSG
  • All staff and assets are formally accredited by the UNMACC or clients' representatives before UXO clearance commences. BACTEC has been accredited by the UNMACC's in Sarajevo, Pristina, Southern Lebanon and the IND in Mozambique
  • Re-accreditation takes place annually for each asset
  • BACTEC's management system is registered to International Standards Organisation (ISO) 9001:2008 (Lloyds LRQA) BACTEC prepares project specific SOPs
Health and Safety

Health and Safety are paramount in all BACTEC's UXO and landmine clearance operations. In particular the following key matters are addressed for each project:

  • International standards are applied for all health and safety matters
  • Each project has a nominated health and safety representative
  • All staff are specifically trained for the task/duties they are required to perform
  • Appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is provided for each project in accordance with safety requirements
  • Safety critical equipment is procured specifically to meet the threat in the theatre of operations
Third Party Auditing

BACTEC offer QA audits on UXO and landmine clearance operations undertaken by third parties. The audits include but are not limited to the following activities:

  • Review and assessment of all relevant documentation covering the qualifications and training of the UXO/Mine Action clearance contractors/workforce to ensure they meet contractual and IMAS requirements
  • Review and evaluation of UXO Risk Assessments, SOPs and method statements for compliance with the contract, IMAS, TSGs and the nature of the threat
  • Review of the Project Management structure to ensure it is adequate to meet the management, administrative and logistic needs of the project
  • Review and assessment of the proposed equipment for suitability
  • Examine maintenance/repair programs for safety critical equipment
  • Audit work sites to include the following topics:
    • Communications
    • CASEVAC Procedures
    • Safe working practices
    • Compliance with IMAS, TSGs and SOPs
    • Internal QA
    • Daily Documentation
    • Completion/recording procedures
    • Handover process
  • Carry out physical sampling of the ordnance clearance work carried out by the third party contractor
  • Audit completion/handover documentation
